The Hernandez PhilosophyMauricio Hernandez believes lawyers should be accessible problem solvers. In the business or consumer setting, they need to understand the clients goals, especially the cost-benefit dimensions of a clients objectives and problems. To do this, lawyers have to be active listeners. Listening leads to a bottom-line direction enabling the client to maximize value and reduce costs in the attorney-client relationship. In the employment and civil litigation setting, Mauricio believes that as ethical advocates, attorneys must remain accessible, concerned, interested, and personally responsive to their clients. Clients must be kept informed. They must be listened to so that the legal process can be explained and better understood. Calls must be promptly returned and communication open and honest. In the community, lawyers must aspire to be principled practitioners in service and in active engagement in a societys lifeblood issues and challenges. As lifelong learners, lawyers have an obligation to continued improvement of their professional knowledge and competence. Not only is this mandated by a lawyers canons of professional responsibility, but also this continuing legal education commitment forms the foundation of client service. Mauricio R. Hernandez
